Our Pastor

Dr. Earl Clifton Stuckey, Sr., is first and foremost a man of God.  As an ordained Preacher, Teacher, Evangelist and Revivalist, he was /files/photos - staff/elders 005.jpgelected Pastor of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Berkeley on September 22nd, 1977.  Pastor Stuckey has a true love for the word of God, and has committed many years of study “to show himself approved, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2nd Timothy 2:15).  As such, Pastor Stuckey is a graduate of Bay Cities Bible Institute (BCBI) and in 1979 he received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the Institute.  He has also studied at Campus Crusade for Christ (San Bernardino, California), and attended a great number of conferences and seminars offered by various leaders in the Christian community.  Pastor Stuckey is well respected in the Bay Area Community at large, and by clergy across this country.  While he is Pastor to the members of Progressive, he is also a trusted bible teacher to thousands who have sat under his instruction at BCBI and at the Baptist Minister’s Union City Wide Revival in Oakland, California.  Pastor Stuckey is known for his indepth preparation and study that goes into every message, lesson, and seminar that he presents.  As a result, he has been invited to teach and preach throughout the country.

Under the leadership of Pastor Stuckey, there have been many accomplishments.  Most notably, Pastor Stuckey has established a Board of Elders to work along side him giving leadership to the congregation (Titus 1:5) and has organized Progressive around the five (5) New Testament purposes of the Church.  The five (5) purposes, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, Evangelism and Worship, are based on the “Great Commandment” (Matthew 22:37-40) and the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:18-20).  Seeing the need for change in the Church, Pastor Stuckey has created “Purpose Teams” and “Team Leaders” to bring a balanced approach to fulfilling the divine mandate of the Church.  Today, Deacons perform the duties of Team Leaders.  These are ordained men who share the vision of Pastor Stuckey, the burden of ministry with the Elders and enjoy both responsibility and authority.  In keeping with Pastor Stuckey’s vision, the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Berkeley seeks to bring glory to God by exalting the Savior through worship, evangelizing the unsaved through mission, equipping the saints for ministry through discipleship, engaging the un-churched through fellowship and empowering the members through service.
